Haciendo Lio in Our Own Voices

This year, we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the pontificate of Pope Francis. In his 2013 meeting with young people during the XXVIII World Youth Day, Pope Francis encouraged the youth to go and be heard: “Hagan Lío,” he stated boldly. We are happy to announce that the theme for this year’s El Futuro is Here conference will be “Haciendo Lío in Our Voices.”

This conference will serve as an invitation for campus ministers, educators, administrators and the young people to “journey together” in a synodal vision of accompaniment. En conjunto (together), the conference will provide a platform to tell particular stories of culturally sustaining responsive campus ministry and theological care happening both inside and outside the classroom.

By centering the voices and stories of Latine people, many of whom are young adults, this conference celebrates the fact that our young people are, in fact, “the now of the church.”

–Papa Francisco

â€śLet me tell you what I hope will be the outcome of World Youth Day: I hope there will be noise. Here there will be noise, I’m quite sure. Here in Rio there will be plenty of noise, no doubt about that. But I want you to make yourselves heard in your dioceses, I want the noise to go out, I want the Church to go out onto the streets, I want us to resist everything worldly, everything static, everything comfortable, everything to do with clericalism, everything that might make us closed in on ourselves.” –Pope Francis
